It is unacceptable for state bodies to hinder the work of the Constitutional Court to rule on the legality of the elections. This was stated by the head of state Rumen Radev to journalists at the Novo Selo training ground in response to a question about the recount of the results of the parliamentary elections held in October last year.

"I insist that all responsible institutions make maximum efforts to immediately resolve this case, because the stake is no longer only the fairness of the elections. The stake is our functioning as a democracy,” the president said. In his words, it is extremely important in this situation to find the right solution, and that is for the Constitutional Court and all those who help it to fulfill their tasks.

“It is clear that those who tell us every day with their impudence what and how to do, and at the same time drag us from scandal to scandal and from crisis to crisis, have an interest in such a development,” Rumen Radev said and emphasized that there is an attempt behind the scenes to engulf the entire state. It is up to all of us whether we will allow it or find the strength to reject it, he added. The head of state added that the feeling is increasingly stronger among more and more people that a line is being crossed, beyond which democracy becomes impossible. Therefore, he emphasized the need for the competent institutions to resolve the case as quickly as possible, in the interests of truth, justice and democracy.

In response to a question about whether he would convene a National Security Advisory Council on the topic, President Radev indicated that it could be convened if the responsible institutions fail in their obligations to resolve the case.

According to the head of state, when this case is concluded, careful consideration of the electoral legislation is needed in order to prevent elections like the last one in October last year, which took place under the shadow of bought and corporate votes with numerous violations and manipulations and as a result led to unprecedented requests to cancel the vote.
