Minister Stankov: Nuclear sector is a focus in the government's management program

The development of nuclear energy is one of the main priorities in the government's management program. I am glad that in the implementation of this priority we can rely on the experience and expertise of our colleagues from Framatome. This was said by the Minister of Energy Zhecho Stankov, who spoke with the company's CEO Bernard Fontana. The meeting, which was held at the Ministry of Energy, was also attended by the Ambassador of France to Bulgaria H.E. Joel Meyer, the Chairman of the Energy Committee in the National Assembly Pavela Mitova, the Deputy Minister of Energy Georgi Samandov and the Executive Director of BEH EAD Valentin Nikolov.
The Ministry of Energy is following a clear strategy for nuclear fuel diversification, emphasized Minister Stankov and added that after the loading of the first Westinghouse fuel cartridges into the fifth unit of the Kozloduy NPP last year, Framatome deliveries for the sixth unit are expected in 2026.
In the medium term, Bulgaria is also considering the possibilities for the application of small modular reactors as a suitable perspective in the development of the sector, it became clear during the meeting.
The coordinated actions of the EU countries supporting nuclear energy are key to the success of the initiatives for the development of the sector, emphasized Minister Stankov in conclusion and appealed to the French partners for common messages at the European level.
