Azerbaijan is a strategic partner of Bulgaria. The energy sector occupies a key place in our bilateral relations. This was stated by the Minister of Energy Zhecho Stankov at a meeting with the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Bulgaria H.E. Dr. Hussein Huseynov and with representatives of the Azerbaijani state energy company SOCAR. Various opportunities for cooperation were discussed at the meeting, and issues of common interest to both countries in the field of energy were touched upon, the energy ministry announced today.

"Azerbaijan plays an important role as a source for diversifying natural gas supplies and, accordingly, for increasing energy security in Bulgaria and the region," Minister Zhecho Stankov also said.

During the meeting, the Green Energy Corridor project between the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary was discussed, which Bulgaria supports and defines as key for strengthening regional and national energy security and improving interconnection.

SOCAR representatives expressed interest in expanding cooperation with the Bulgarian side. Currently, the Azerbaijani company supplies our country with 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year through Greece and the Greece-Bulgaria gas connection.
