At today's meeting, the Council of Ministers allowed a derogation for restrictive measures in view of Russia's actions destabilizing the situation in Ukraine. With the derogation, Kozloduy NPP is allowed to award public contracts with selected contractors according to an annex to today's decision. The plant will be able to import iron and steel products from Russia, upon fulfillment of contracts also listed in annexes to today's decision, the press service of the cabinet announced.

The importation of goods and technology from Russia and the provision of related technical assistance necessary for the execution of contracts expressly listed in the annexes are also permitted. The derogation will apply until the expiry of these contracts.

The main priority in the operation of the Kozloduy NPP is the maintenance of the highest level of technical and nuclear safety, radiation protection, safe and healthy working conditions, as well as environmental protection. Regular supplies and consulting services from designers, constructors and manufacturers of the equipment installed in the plant are a guarantor of accident-free electricity production and nuclear safety.

Since a large part of the plant's systems and equipment is of Russian origin, some of the contracts for the supply of goods and the provision of services related to the annual repairs, reliable and safe operation of units 5 and 6 of the Kozloduy NPP have been concluded or have to be concluded with Russian contractors.

Kozloduy NPP is the only nuclear power plant in Bulgaria and the largest producer of electricity in the country. It provides over 1/3 of the national electricity production. Trouble-free and stable operation of the plant is a matter of energy and national security.
