83 municipalities will receive BGN 107 million for energy-efficient street lighting systems
The second stage of the procedure for energy-efficient street lighting systems, which is administered by the Ministry of Energy, has ended. The procedure is financed under the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism. A total of 87 proposals worth nearly BGN 114 million were submitted within the framework of the invitation to the procedure. After a technical and financial assessment, the projects of 83 municipalities have been approved and will receive funding in the amount of BGN 107,558,870. The support for the construction of energy-efficient street lighting is part of the "Low Carbon Economy" section of the Recovery and Sustainability Plan.
"We have made a commitment to the municipalities that by the end of June the documentation will be reviewed and the approved projects will be ranked," recalls Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov. Contracts should be concluded as soon as possible after reviewing the necessary documents. The project implementation period is up to 15 months after signing the contracts. "I am confident that with the implementation of the projects, the conditions for the citizens in the municipalities will improve and energy costs will be reduced," emphasized Malinov.
We remind you that with the implementation of the projects, a minimum of 30% electricity savings should be achieved. By reducing municipal expenses, it will be possible to direct the funds to other social activities. The implementation of the investment will support the process of reducing emissions and improving energy management, as well as the development of different concepts and the implementation of new technologies in street lighting systems. The project proposals envisage the implementation of systems for monitoring energy consumption and for automatic lighting control. A large part of the municipalities have also foreseen the introduction of a renewable energy source, and part of the technical solutions include the construction of their own photovoltaic plant with a battery for the needs of the external artificial lighting system.
