Bulgaria is looking for options to resume the operation of the Ruse-Giurgevo ferry
Ministers Georgi Gvozdeikov and Violeta Koritarova discussed with the Romanian ambassador the readiness for launching the ferry between the two cities of Ruse-Giurgevo
Bulgaria is fully prepared for the resumption of the Ruse-Giurgevo ferry line. The project is of key importance for easing the traffic between Bulgaria and Romania, given the upcoming repair works on the Danube Bridge. This was stated by the Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeikov during a meeting with the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Violeta Koritarova and the Ambassador of Romania in Sofia H.E. Brandusha Predescu.
Minister Gvozdeikov explained the need to open the ferry connection. "In this way, we will help transport and the economy, we will help supplies arrive in the fastest way, and the clear deadlines for the launch of the line will bring security and reassurance not only for the transport industry, but also for all tourists," he added. Georgi Gvozdeikov. According to him, the operator who will carry out the ferry services, as well as all the institutions related to the project, are ready to start work.
"We performed an analysis that showed that over 200,000 cars crossed the Danube bridge near Ruse in May. During the renovation, the ferry line will inevitably help ease traffic and shorten transit times between the two countries. Our studies show that it can accommodate 20% of heavy goods traffic, which will allow tourists to travel more calmly," commented Minister Koritarova. And he added that the contractor company, which will repair the Bulgarian section of the bridge facility, will work without interruption, with extended working hours 7 days a week, with shortened deadlines with the possibility of shortening the deadline for the repair works.
"On Friday, the Government of Romania took a very important step towards opening the ferry connection between Ruse and Giurgiu, but it will take technical time to start the procedure," said the Romanian Ambassador H.E. Brandusha Predescu.
Minister Gvozdeikov pointed out to the Romanian ambassador that good organization is necessary on both sides. "In the last one month, two emergency repairs have been carried out, which show the urgency of the complete repair of the facility. Our aim is not to make it difficult for people to pass during the summer season, but to take care of their safety," said the transport minister.
