The cooperation between Bulgaria and Turkey will help ensure energy security in the region

The deepening of cooperation between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Turkey has a huge potential to help ensure energy security in the region of Southeast Europe. During a meeting, the Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov and the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to our country H.E. Mehmet Sait Uyanak.

"Turkey is one of Bulgaria's key partners in the field of energy. Guaranteeing energy security for the region and diversification of sources are common priorities on which we will continue our joint work," Minister Malinov emphasized to Ambassador Uyanak. "After stopping the transportation of Russian natural gas through Ukrainian territory, the need for energy supplies to the region through the liquefied gas terminals in Turkey will increase," Malinov also said. During the meeting, it was noted that the Bulgargaz and Botash companies are continuing the talks in connection with the Decision of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria of April 19, 2024. It instructs the Minister of Energy to take the necessary actions in order to renegotiate the Agreement between Bulgargaz EAD and the Turkish energy company Botash. Ambassador Uyanak expressed his willingness to assist in continuing the constructive dialogue between the two countries with the aim of achieving optimal results.

The two also discussed the role of the development of cooperation in the field of the development of the electricity systems of the two countries. They noted the potential for green energy transmission for the European market. Minister Malinov also talked with Ambassador Uyanak about the development of the nuclear sector in Bulgaria, noting the actions taken to build new nuclear facilities. "Our country has 50 years of experience in the operation of a nuclear power plant, we are ready to provide experience and expertise if necessary to our Turkish colleagues," added Malinov.

Minister Malinov and Ambassador Uyanak expressed readiness to sign a memorandum to promote energy cooperation between Bulgaria and Turkey in the coming months.
