Minister Malinov discussed the financing of the project for new nuclear capacities with the president of Exim Bank

"The construction of new nuclear facilities at the site of the Kozloduy NPP is one of the main priorities in the work of the current government. We are confident that in close cooperation with our American partners from Westinghouse, we will be able to follow the schedule for the construction of the 7th block adopted by the decision of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria from 18.12.2023". This was said by the Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov during his meeting with Rita Lewis - Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of Exim Bank.

The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM Bank) is the official export credit agency of the United States. It is an independent agency whose mission is to support American companies in the development of local and international projects. According to the preliminary schedule according to the cited decision of the National Assembly, the negotiations for securing external financing with financing institutions for the construction of new nuclear facilities should be completed by 30.07.2025.

The president of Exim Bank confirmed the priority for financing the project in Bulgaria. According to Rita Lewis, the bank will launch actions at the operational level to ensure financing according to the schedule of the parliament. "We rely on the experience and expertise of the Export-Import Bank of the United States of America, so that the 7th unit of the Kozloduy NPP will be built within the stipulated time. I am confident that with the joining of a bank of the rank of Exim in the project, it will be even more attractive for other financing institutions", emphasized Minister Malinov. During the conversation, the necessary steps to speed up the financing process were identified.

The Minister of Energy and the President of the Bank also discussed the development of renewable sources and batteries as energy storage technology. "The Bulgarian side is actively working in this field in order to adequately respond to the future challenges in the development of the energy sector. The need to introduce energy storage systems that will allow stability and predictability of energy produced from renewable sources is increasing," Malinov stressed.
