Bulgaria and the USA continue the strategic dialogue to guarantee energy security

Bulgaria and the United States of America have fruitful cooperation in common projects of mutual interest that will contribute to achieving energy security. The Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev and the US Ambassador to our country Kenneth Merten united around this at a meeting in the Council of Ministers. Mutual satisfaction with the achieved results in the energy sector, especially in gas diversification, was emphasized. It was pointed out that the steps taken by Bulgaria in this direction are impressive. Cooperation between the two countries contributes to increasing energy security and diversification of sources and supply routes not only in our country, but also in the region. This was announced by the press service of the Council of Ministers today.

Prime Minister Glavchev expressed confidence that the partnership with the US in nuclear energy will also continue. During the conversation, it was stated that the project for the construction of the 7th and 8th units of the Kozloduy NPP is among the main priorities in the work of the current government. It is of strategic importance both for the energy security of Bulgaria and the region, and for achieving the decarbonization goals.

Among the topics discussed during the meeting was the progress of the Chiren underground gas storage expansion project. It was emphasized that the doubling of natural gas storage capacity is of strategic importance for energy security, diversification and development of the gas market in the region.

Yesterday, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Lyudmila Petkova and the Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov also held a meeting with the Ambassador of the United States of America, Kenneth Merten.
