The Institute for Energy Management (IEM) is organizing a round table on the topic "Changes in the wholesale and retail electricity market - opportunities and problems", which will be held today at the Grand Hotel Sofia from 09:30, the organizers announced.

Among the main highlights of the round table will be the legal and factual changes in the electricity market. Issues related to the financial stability of market participants supplying household consumers will be discussed. Among the topics will be the liquidity and price levels of the electricity market, as well as the preparation of domestic consumers for the upcoming full liberalization of the market from 2026.

Among the invited participants are representatives of relevant state institutions - the parliamentary Committee on Energy, the Ministry of Energy, EWRC, the representations of the European Commission and the European Parliament in Sofia, business organizations and associations, energy companies, NGOs, scientific units, experts.

In recent years, the topic of the development of the electricity market has been discussed many times, but at the same time there have been significant legal and factual changes in this regard, influenced by both external and internal factors, contributed by IEM.

In parallel with this, the current regulation on the subject at the legal and regulatory level foresees new changes within relatively short periods. In reality, however, regardless of the fact that some changes related to the development of the electricity market are already a fact, the accumulated experience and comparative analyzes pose a number of questions both from a formal point of view and through the prism of the practical application of the established legal framework. Questions remain open related to the financial stability of market participants supplying household consumers, the liquidity and price levels of the electricity market, as well as the preparation of household consumers for the upcoming full liberalization of the market from 2026. The purpose of the Round Table is to emphasize precisely on these problems, proposing specific steps to overcome them.
