Kozloduy NPP confirmed that Hyundai Engineering & Construction is the only company that meets the requirement to build new nuclear units in our country

The South Korean company Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co is the only one remaining in the short list of admitted candidates for the construction and commissioning of units 7 and 8 at the Kozloduy NPP, with AP1000 technology. This is clearly published information on the ‘Kozloduy NPP - New capacities’ website. This is the parent company of the Kozloduy NPP, charged by the government with the task of building the new nuclear units in our country.

After the preliminary invitation, a special commission has carried out a check in relation to each candidate for the presence of required engineering-technical and construction experience and expertise; economic and financial capacity, as well as for the presence of all the required documents.

Prior to the evaluation, the list of companies was drawn up by applicants Fluor, Bechtel Nuclear Power Company Limited, Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., a consortium led by China National Nuclear Corporation Overseas and partner China Energy Engineering Group Tianjin Electric Power Construction Co., as well and China Energy Engineering Corporation Limited. The expected French companies did not apply for the construction of new sides in our country. Russian candidates were initially excluded from the procedure.

The commission's report was accepted and approved by decision of the Board of Directors of "Kozloduy NPP - New Powers" under item I.1. from Protocol No. 4-2024 of February 13.

It is now expected that the Bulgarian energy holding will evaluate how to continue the selection of companies and whether it will reach an agreement with the South Korean company for the construction of the new nuclear units.
