ESO is a partner in the iDesignRES project for integrated modeling of the energy system for planned deployment of RES
The electricity system operator joined the iDesignRES project under the Horizon Europe program, aimed at developing a set of tools for operational planning of energy systems at the pan-European level in order to optimize and modernize the infrastructure to ensure the integration of energy from renewable sources.
For 4 years, ESO in partnership with 22 scientific organizations and companies from 12 countries will work on an open source toolkit for integrated modeling of energy system components for planned deployment of renewable energy sources at regional, national and European level. Scientific organizations and companies from Bulgaria, Norway, Greece, Spain, Austria, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland, Italy and Ukraine participate in the consortium.
The iDesignRES project under the Horizon Europe program is funded by the European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and the Environment - CINEA, with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) as coordinator.
The iDesignRES project will step into five real areas for demonstration and validation of the tools - two macro-regions - North Sea and South-East Europe - Bulgaria and Greece, two industrial clusters - Basque Autonomy and Lombardy and one application for the expansion of energy infrastructure in Ukraine. The developed toolkit will enable public authorities and grid operators to design renewable energy systems entirely online.
You will find more information about the iDesignRES project on the ESO website in the "Projects and Initiative" section at the address: ESO.BG - Electric Power System Operator.
