Andrey Tsekov: We will create an 8-year strategy for the road infrastructure
"We will create an eight-year strategy, according to which public funds will be spent on road repairs and construction." This was stated by Regional Minister Andrey Tsekov at the joint press conference in the Council of Ministers with Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov, Minister of Finance Asen Vasilev, Minister of Economy and Industry Bogdan Bogdanov, Minister of Energy Rumen Radev and Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeikov on current issues in the management program of the cabinet. The law envisages the development of an eight-year strategy, which is adopted by a ministerial council, noted Minister Tsekov and emphasized that the strategy should be based on the current state of the roads.
"The biggest deficit in the field of construction and maintenance of Bulgaria's road network is that they must be carried out transparently and according to priorities," he also pointed out.
Minister Tsekov pointed out that a road strategy was created in 2015, which expired in 2022. However, the caretaker government spent public funds according to the subjective judgment of politicians, without transparency and foresight and "in the dark", Tsekov explained and added: " Repairs were commissioned without it being clear whether they were necessary," BTA reported.
He is adamant that a new strategy should be drawn up, an analysis of the state of the roads should be made and, with the help of the latest technologies and thanks to an interactive map, priority repairs and the need for maintenance of the road infrastructure should be reflected on the map on a daily basis. "Based on the data on this interactive road map, we will decide where and what will be done on Bulgaria's roads," Tsekov said.
