The Minister of Energy and the director of NEC will visit the Belene site
Acting Minister of Energy Rosen Hristov and the Executive Director of the National Electric Company Martin Georgiev will visit the Belene NPP site today.
On Wednesday, the minister met with the management of the leading French energy company EDF, with whom he discussed a feasibility study and assessment of the possibility of building the nuclear power plant. On the French side, they presented an exemplary detailed plan of what such a study would involve. So far, France has shown interest in participating in a project to complete the second nuclear power plant. The project is Bulgarian, using the Russian equipment for VVER 1000 blocks, with some of the equipment already delivered and stored at the Belene site. NEC is the owner of this equipment, valued as an asset for over BGN 2.5 billion.
In addition to French companies, American and Chinese companies showed interest in the last investor auction, along with the constructor "Rosatom". The auction has not yet officially closed, although the Ministry of Energy has given a request for this to happen.
"The "Belene" project has a future and our idea is that on the basis of complete and up-to-date information, the parliament should decide how to continue its development", Minister Rosen Hristov emphasized recently.
A few weeks ago, the minister also talked with Ukrainian experts about the possibility that the equipment for the "Belene" NPP could be used in some Ukrainian nuclear power plant after the end of the war.
