On Sunday Bulgaria exported to the United Arab Emirates by air 32 tonnes of foods: vegetables, meat and dairy products, the information service of the Bulgarian government said Monday.

The delivery of Bulgarian foods, which reached Abu Dhabi international airport on Sunday evening, was organized by the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. In return, Bulgaria received from the UAE 15 tonnes of medical supplies: masks, gloves, disinfectants and protective clothing, as well as food.

The gesture of solidarity and support comes as a result of the good business contacts fostered between Bulgaria and the UAE over the past two years, the expanding strategic cooperation between the two countries and the high-level dialogue between Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the press release says.

According to the press release, Economy Minister Emil Karanikolov met in Abu Dhabi with UAE Minister of State Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh who is in charge of the coordination of the relations with Bulgaria.

The participants in the meeting stressed the importance of joint steps to contain the spread of coronavirus.

UAE Minister of State Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh is quoted as saying that his country thanks Bulgaria for the friendship and joint work to mitigate the economic and social impact of the global pandemic. The official described the exchange of goods as a message to the world that together the countries can respond to the needs of their peoples and make their nations strong now and after the end of the problem.
