Prime Ministers of Bulgaria, Croatia Meet
Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov conferred with his Croatian counterpart Andrej Plenkovic, the information service of the Bulgarian government said Thursday.
Borissov heads a delegation of his GERB Party to the European People Party (EPP) Congress in Zagreb on November 20 and 21.
Borissov and Plenkovic discussed the priorities of the upcoming Croatian Presidency of the EU Council (January-June 2020) and the commitment to carry over the topic of the Western Balkans' European integration. The two prime ministers concurred that the future of the Western Balkans is in the EU.
Other topics discussed by the two prime ministers were the importance of the transport, energy and digital infrastructure in the region and in the entire EU, and the brain drain from the two countries.
Borissov and Plenkovic discussed the expansion of the trade and economic cooperation between Bulgaria and Croatia, and the potential for promotion and attraction of investments. Infrastructure projects, tourism, the food industry, ICT and energy were singled out as promising areas for cooperation between Bulgarian and Croatian companies.
Borissov said that the two countries should jointly support the European policy for strengthening the energy infrastructure and the implementation of projects that diversify the routes and sources of natural gas.
The two prime ministers praised also the upward tendency in the bilateral cooperation in culture and education.
