Bulgartransgaz: Capacity between national and transit networks is already sufficient to unite the two balance zones

The capacity between the two national networks - national and transit, is already sufficient to be able to unite the two balance zones, after Bulgartransgaz EAD implements technical measures from its investment program. This was stated by the state gas transmission operator during a public discussion in the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission / EWRC / of a draft of Rules for amendment of the Rules for balancing the natural gas market / RA of RBNGM /.

This is a step forward in market opening, as participants in the trade, transmission and distribution of natural gas no longer have the obligation and need to reserve transfer point capacity. Their balance positions will be formed at the entry and exit points of the two gas transmission networks in a common balance zone. This is the reason for making changes to the balancing rules, explained the experts of the gas transmission operator.

Bulgartransgaz EAD also clarified that a technical connection had been made near the Valchi Dol compressor station. In this way the number of connections is increased. This helps to transfer commercial quantities of natural gas between the two networks.

The closed meeting of the EWRC, at which a decision on Rules for amending the Rules for balancing the market must be adopted, is scheduled for September 16, 2021, said the chairman of the regulator Ivan Ivanov.
