The renewed Recovery and Sustainability Plan includes a number of key projects in the fields of energy, healthcare and social sphere, which will help Bulgaria to develop sustainably in the coming years. This was explained by Atanas Pekanov, Deputy Prime Minister for European Funds Management Atanas Pekanov during a round table on "Bulgarian PVU: The Plan for the Future?", Organized by MOVE.BG. The discussion marks one year since the creation of a coalition of civil society organizations "For a Green Restart", which includes MOVE.BG, WWF Bulgaria, "Greenpeace" - Bulgaria and "Institute of Circular Economy".

He recalled that the new version of the Recovery and Sustainability Plan estimates that the BGN 12.6 billion aid will drive an additional BGN 8 billion in private investment over the next 7 years. In the revised version of the Plan we have another 57 projects and 11 are completely new. There are 43 reforms, seven of which have not been proposed so far.

The plan strengthens the part for circular economy, which has not been well represented so far. BGN 117 million are at stake. Bulgaria lags behind in this area and has the potential to lead, Pekanov commented. Funds for the field of biodiversity have also been increased. Biodiversity loss is currently happening 100 to 1,000 times faster than the pre-industrial era, and this could have extremely detrimental effects on ecosystems and the climate, he said.

The Plan also includes the reform - Scale up Bulgaria, which will support different types of changes in the commercial law, so that the most innovative companies have good enough conditions for development in our country than in other countries.

Changes in the commercial law in this area are envisaged, the minister noted.

Two other important reforms in the plan are the establishment of a Commission for the Energy Future of the country and a Council for Economic Analysis, which will prepare scenarios on the basis of which long-term decisions will be made.
