Bulgaria has joined 24 EU countries that have introduced rules to support and facilitate start-ups. This happened after today the Minister of Economy Kiril Petkov signed the Declaration on the introduction of the "EU Standard for Excellence of Nations of Start-ups". Thus, our country became part of the "club" of member states that implement the policies in the document. Representatives of the Bulgarian Startup Association /BESCO/ also attended the official ceremony at the Ministry of Economy.
The European Commission, together with the Member States, has identified a number of good practices that are criteria for the business environment. Their implementation favors economic growth. Having such a business environment is essential for the EU's transition to a sustainable, open and digital economy, which is unleashing its huge potential for innovation and start-up growth.
By signing this declaration, Bulgaria is committed to participating actively by taking action at the national level to implement measures that support start-ups and growing enterprises at every stage of their development.
Some of the main advantages of the declaration are the implementation of measures to support the rapid creation of start-ups and support their entry into the market, attracting and retaining qualified staff through the issuance of "startup visas". The "Think Small First" principle is also applied in order to avoid unnecessary administrative burdens for businesses. In addition, public institutions are encouraged to work with start-ups when awarding public contracts.
For their part, the representatives of BESCO explained that by 2022 it is quite possible for Bulgaria to meet all the criteria set out in the Declaration for a suitable business environment for start-up companies.
