Bourgas Airport reported an increase of 219 percent of passengers passing through the airport for the period 1-31 May 2021 compared to the same period last year, informed BTA from the operator of the seaports in Bourgas and Varna - Fraport Twin Star. Last month, 5,073 passengers passed through the aircraft, up from 1,590 a year earlier, the company said. Despite the large increase, the results from before the Covid-19 pandemic show that in May 2019, 125,998 people landed at Bourgas Airport.

From January to May this year, there is a decrease of 44 percent in passenger traffic through Bourgas airport compared to the same period in 2020. In the first 5 months of 2021, 11,315 people passed through, while a year earlier they were 20,297. In the first five months of 2019, there were 175,211 passengers.

The latest data show that from June 1 to 7, 6020 passengers passed through Bourgas Airport. For the same period a year earlier, they were 1,171 passengers, while in 2019 - 92,268 passengers, added Fraport Twin Star.

In April this year, the passengers in countries that landed at Bourgas Airport were from: Great Britain - 1954; Poland - 1291; Israel - 887; Luxembourg - 361; Russia - 284; Estonia - 144.

For the period 1-31 May, 38,536 passengers passed through Varna Airport, while for the same period, but a year earlier, they were 12,084. This is also an increase of 219 percent, the airport operator informed. Before the pavilion of Kovid-19, from 1 to 31 May 2019, 143,133 people landed at Varna airport. For the period January - May 2021, 119,634 passengers landed at the airport in Varna, while a year earlier they were 36 percent more - 186,429. In the first 5 months of 2019, 388,892 people passed through.

In April, passengers from the following destinations passed through Varna Airport: Sofia - 10,741; Germany - 10,584; Great Britain - 4659; Austria - 3327; Israel - 3025; The Netherlands - 2276; Turkey - 1623; Egypt - 797; Luxembourg - 476; Cyprus - 361, added the airport operator.

Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD is a German-Bulgarian company that has won a concession to manage Varna Airport and Bourgas Airport for 35 years. In the joint venture, Fraport holds a 60 percent majority stake. The company manages and develops the two sea airports providing round-the-clock service - Varna Airport in Northeast and Bourgas Airport in Southeast Bulgaria.

In 2020, Varna Airport and Bourgas Airport welcomed over 1 million passengers and almost 11,000 flights of 49 Bulgarian and foreign airlines operating charter and scheduled flights to more than 90 destinations in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD in Varna and Burgas employs more than 590 permanent and about 230 seasonal employees.
