In 2020, Bulgartransgaz EAD transported 36,092,096 MWh of natural gas from import and local production, including for end customers on the territory of the country and for export outside the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria. This is stated in the annual report published on the website of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC). Compared to the data from the previous report, the transferred quantities of blue fuel are increasing. For comparison, in 2019 they were in the range of 33,831,985 MWh - from imports and local extraction, including for end customers in the country and for exports outside the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria.

An increase is also observed with regard to the quantities of natural gas transferred by the company in 2019 for export outside the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria. For example, if in 2019 they were in the volume of 3 367 077 MWh, then in 2020 they reach a volume of 4 755 015 MWh.

The quantities of natural gas imported and domestically extracted by the company, intended for the domestic market in 2020, are 31,337,081 MWh, it is stated in the annual report of the energy regulator and also increase compared to 2019 - 30,464,908 MWh.

According to Bulgartransgaz EAD, in 2020 515,402 MWh were purchased from users, respectively 267,083 MWh of natural gas were sold for balancing on the national gas transmission network and the gas transmission network for transit transmission, added the EWRC. For comparison, a year earlier the volume purchased by users was in the range of 437,199,738 MWh, and sold for balancing the system - 256,186,318 MWh.

The total length of the gas transmission network of Bulgartransgaz EAD at the end of 2020 is 3276 km, incl. built network in 2020 - 476 km. In 2020, a compressor station "Rasovo" was built, it is noted in the report of the EWRC experts.

There is currently only one gas storage facility in Bulgaria - Chiren UGS, which has 22 production wells, a compressor station with a total installed capacity of 10 MW and other technological facilities necessary to ensure the injection, extraction and quality of stored natural gas. The technological process related to the performance of the service "natural gas storage" is seasonal (cyclical) and is expressed in the extraction and injection of gas from / into the underground gas storage. Seasonal fluctuations in the supply and consumption in the country are compensated by storing quantities of natural gas in the Chiren UGS.

To ensure the security of natural gas supplies in the country, it mainly relies on quantities of natural gas stored in the Chiren UGS. An important role of the repository is the provision of quantities of process gas for balancing, as well as in connection with the stability of the gas transmission system. In 2020, Bulgartransgaz EAD pumped 362 million m³ of natural gas and extracted 413 million m³, and as of 31.12.2020 the gas storage has a stock of 1113 million. m³ natural gas, of which 750 million m³ buffer gas. An important prerequisite for the implementation of the concept for the establishment of a gas distribution center in Bulgaria is the expansion of the capacity of UGS "Chiren", the report says, and here the improvement of the data is reported.
