Bulgaria and Greece are strategic partners in the field of energy
Minister Stankov talks with the Ambassador of Greece to Bulgaria H.E. Alexios Marios Liberopoulos

"The Bulgarian government is working hard to strengthen energy connectivity in the region. The development of projects in this aspect is of key importance both for the security of supplies and for the competitiveness of the economy." This was emphasized by the Minister of Energy Zhecho Stankov during his meeting with H.E. Alexios Marios Liberopoulos, Ambassador of Greece to Bulgaria. The Vertical Gas Corridor is one of the priority energy projects with a significant role in the security and diversification of gas supplies for the region, Minister Stankov pointed out and emphasized that Bulgaria is among the first countries that will begin real actions on the actual construction of the project.
During the conversation, in which Deputy Minister Georgi Samandov also participated, the belief was shared that political stability is of key importance for economic growth. The fact that Bulgaria currently has a regular government after years of instability is a leading prerequisite for the success of the reforms being carried out, Minister Stankov emphasized.
The parties highlighted the existing strong strategic cooperation in the field of energy, the deepening of which in the future may have a key role in ensuring energy security for the entire region. Noting the similar views of the two countries, Minister Stankov and Ambassador Liberopoulos emphasized the importance of a single voice at the European level in support of important positions for the countries. Among them - the need for joint coordinated actions to overcome the challenges related to the volatility of energy prices. The development of network connectivity is of essential importance in this process, the two interlocutors agreed.
Minister Stankov assured Ambassador Liberopoulos that the Bulgarian government is making serious efforts to find a mutually acceptable solution to the issue of water supply from the Arda River to the agricultural regions in Northern Greece, after the agreement between the two countries of July 9, 1964 expired.
The energy minister also informed his interlocutor about the efforts of the Bulgarian government to renegotiate the reforms set out in the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan, in an attempt to prevent the loss of European funds.
