An invitation has also been sent for a meeting with the company's senior management to discuss the possibilities for the future of the paper mill in Stamboliyski
Following an invitation from the Minister of Economy and Industry, an official meeting was held at the Ministry between Dr. Petko Nikolov and representatives of the management of Mondi Group in Bulgaria in connection with the announced suspension of the company's production activities in our country. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Ministers of Economy and Industry Dr. David Sukalinski and Nikolay Pavlov.
Minister Nikolov asked to familiarize himself with the reasons for the investor's intention that led to the decision to suspend the plant's operations and dismiss the employees working in Stamboliyski.
At the meeting, the Minister of Economy pointed out the need for the plant to continue operating and defined it as a structurally determining enterprise for the region.
Dr. Petko Nikolov stated the categorical support of the Ministry of Economy and Industry regarding the workers' demands for more clarity about the future of the plant and its activities.
He called on the company's representatives to consider the possibilities for Mondi Group to restore the plant's operations in view of its strategic importance for the industry and economy in the country. Nikolov assured that the state is ready to provide assistance in finding a possible new investor who will preserve the plant's operations and jobs.
According to him, the state shares the workers' position that if the plant is to be sold, the new owner must be an investor who will preserve and expand the production activities and keep people's jobs.
A meeting was also held with the head of production activities at Mondi Stamboliyski, as well as with representatives of the initiative committee for the plant's rescue. At the meeting, the initiative committee expressed its concerns about the closure of the factory and the sale of assets.
