By the application deadline of December 5, 2024, 151 proposals for a total value of nearly 5 billion leva were submitted under the procedure for the construction of a national renewable energy storage infrastructure (RESTORE) from the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan. The grant funding amounts to almost 1.154 billion leva. The maximum intensity of the grant funding under the procedure is up to 50% of the eligible costs for 1 MWh of usable energy capacity. There is no minimum amount for financing each proposal, and the maximum is 148,643,080 leva. This was announced today by the Ministry of Energy.

Within the framework of this investment, the construction and commissioning of facilities for storing electricity from renewable sources with a minimum of 3000 MWh of usable energy capacity, connected to the electricity transmission and distribution networks on the territory of Bulgaria, is supported. "I am satisfied with the serious interest in the construction of facilities for storing energy from RES. This is a guarantee for a significant increase in the share of energy from renewable sources in the energy mix, fully in line with the challenges related to the European Green Deal and the carbon-free future of the energy sector. The successful implementation of battery projects will significantly contribute to the security of the energy system in Bulgaria and the region,” said Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov.

The investments under the procedure must be implemented and the facilities put into operation by March 2026. In May 2025, the maturity of the projects and their implementation will be checked.
