"The engagement of an international legal consultant with the experience and expertise of Pillsbury by Kozloduy NPP - New Powers EAD is an important step towards the successful implementation of the project for the construction of the 7th and 8th units at the Kozloduy NPP site." This was said by the Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov at the document signing ceremony, which took place during his visit to Washington, USA. The contract was signed by the executive director of NPP "Kozloduy - New Powers" Petyo Ivanov and Vince Zabelski - partner in Pillsbury. The ceremony was also attended by Dr. John Carmack, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy at the US Department of Energy, as well as Jeff Merrifield, Chief of Nuclear Energy at Pillsbury, who served as the head of the US nuclear regulator for two terms…

"The project to build units 7 and 8 in our nuclear power plant is strategic not only for our country, but also for the entire region of Southeast Europe in the context of achieving the goals of carbon neutrality," Minister Malinov emphasized. According to him, this project will strengthen the role of Bulgaria, which has 50 years of experience in the operation of nuclear power, as a regional energy leader. Engaging an international law firm of the rank of Pillsbury in the project will assist in the proper structuring and implementation of the project, added the energy minister.

Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman is an international law firm with over 50 years of experience in the field of nuclear energy. The firm's portfolio includes comprehensive legal services for some of the most successful new capacity projects in recent years, such as the Barakah NPP in the United Arab Emirates and the Akkuyu NPP in Turkey. The firm's key competencies include the preparation of engineering and construction contracts, financing and licensing of new nuclear facilities.

Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov met with Westinghouse Executive Vice President for International Markets and Chief Commercial Officer Jacques Besnainu and other representatives of the company's management. During the conversation, the need to finalize the signing of an engineering contract between New Power Plant Kozloduy and a consortium between the Korean Hyundai Engineering and Construction and the American Westinghouse Electric Company was emphasized. "We are confident that the joint work of companies of a similar rank is a guarantee for the implementation of the large-scale project for the construction of new capacities in our country within the set deadlines," emphasized the energy minister.
