Rumen Radev: A mandatory condition for the success of the next caretaker government is for the state to counteract the ugly phenomenon of the bought and controlled vote
The head of state appointed Dimitar Glavchev as a candidate for acting prime minister and announced that, if a government is successfully formed, early parliamentary elections will be held on October 27
President Rumen Radev signed a decree by which, pursuant to Art. 99 par. 5 of the Constitution designated Dimitar Glavchev as a candidate for acting Prime Minister and assigned him to present the composition and structure of the Council of Ministers by August 26. "I hope that your government will make countering the bought and controlled vote a top priority, and by assuming this mandate, you are taking on the responsible mission of fully mobilizing the forces of the Bulgarian state to combat this ugly phenomenon. I expect by Monday that you will present to me a composition of the Council of Ministers, which convincingly fits into this important mission", said the head of state and added that if the procedure is successful, the early parliamentary elections will be held on October 27.
"During your first term as caretaker prime minister, suspicions arose about dependencies on certain political figures. You denied them, but today you get the real opportunity to refute them", said Rumen Radev, stressing that in order for this to happen, first of all, changes in the composition of the current government should be proposed, which should be followed by decisive actions of the new office. The success of the mandate requires a thorough analysis of all the vicissitudes that the current caretaker government has gone through in recent months, the president added.
The head of state recalled that the failed attempt of Goritza Kozhareva to form a caretaker government, as well as the refusal and abstention of other possible candidates, led to Dimitar Glavchev being nominated again as a candidate for caretaker prime minister. Rumen Radev also highlighted the obstacles for the management of the Bulgarian National Bank to issue a candidacy for acting prime minister. "I believe that it is not right to extinguish the crisis in one institution by starting a fire in another, which is extremely important for the financial and economic stability of the country at a difficult time," the president also said.
Dimitar Glavchev thanked the head of state for the opportunity and assured him that on Monday he will present the composition and structure of the Council of Ministers, which, according to him, will meet the expectations of the Bulgarian citizens.
