On June 10, 2024, the scheduled annual repair of the fifth unit of the Kozloduy NPP was completed. The unit was included in the national electricity system at 9:53 a.m., after an inspection and a positive assessment by the Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NRA).

In fulfillment of the Kozloduy NPP program for diversification of nuclear fuel supplies, 43 Westinghouse-produced cartridges were loaded into the unit's reactor. This marks the beginning of the 4-year phased transition process of unit five to RWFA nuclear fuel.

The license to use the new fuel was issued by the Nuclear Regulatory Agency on April 22, 2024, following a thorough safety assessment.

The cartridges required for the first recharge were delivered to the nuclear power plant in April 2024, after on January 19, 2024, the NRA issued the Kozloduy NPP a permit to store the new type of nuclear fuel. During the mandatory control performed during the delivery, it was confirmed that all the cartridges received correspond to the requirements laid down in the contract with Westinghouse for the manufacture and delivery of the cartridges with nuclear fuel.

During the repair campaign of the fifth unit, which began on May 5, the necessary maintenance and repair activities were carried out in accordance with the license obligations and the requirements of the technological regulations for safe operation. Preventive technical maintenance of the facilities, functional tests, inspections, specialized inspections and diagnostic non-destructive testing were carried out.

The set of measures aimed at increasing safety and ensuring the long-term operation of the unit has been completed according to schedule.

The loading of the fifth block is carried out according to the technological regulation.
