Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov resigned
Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov submitted his resignation to the government today, the press service of the Council of Ministers announced. This happened around 5 p.m., and the resignation is already in the National Assembly's office.
This is the expected start of the rotation that has been talked about for several months. At the same time, the tension between the two leading forces in the parliament - GERB and PP-DB - remains serious. Actual negotiations to form a new government also begin. If such is not formed, it will be possible to have new early elections. Resigned Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov will make a statement at 7:00 p.m.
A few hours after GERB and their leader Boyko Borisov came out with an official position and a proposal on how, according to them, relations in the rotating non-coalition with PP-DB should continue in order to have a cabinet, they also came out with their comment. They announced that the leaders of the two parties and Nikolay Denkov will join the negotiating team for a coalition agreement and called on the National Assembly to vote on the resignation of the rotating prime minister tomorrow.
It states that the PP-DB coalition parliamentary group accepts the outcome of today's GERB-SDS meeting as a step towards creating an atmosphere for constructive dialogue. We express satisfaction that a large part of the points proposed in the PP-DB memorandum have been adopted and discussed with the necessary seriousness in the agreement proposed by GERB.
For PP-DB, the stability of the country and its sustainable development for a foreseeable long period are a top priority. However, an irrevocable and fundamental task is to ensure the continuation of reforms in the judiciary, the security services, the election of honorable and expert members of the regulators, the full membership of Schengen and the Eurozone. This must be done with clear commitments, which excludes the formation of majorities outside of the two parliamentary formations.
We assess the situation at the moment as particularly important for the future of the country and therefore call on our colleagues from GERB to start the negotiations as soon as Mrs. Maria Gabriel is back in the country. The negotiating team of the PP-DB will consist of the leaders of the coalition and the current Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov, recalls Dir.bg.
For us, every contract is a promise between the parties, and good promises are promises kept. That is why we will propose tomorrow that the National Assembly effectively accept by voting the resignation of the government of Nikolay Denkov", stated in a statement from PP-DB.
