Intensive work is being done for the market associations of electricity, answered the Minister of Energy Temenujka Petkova during today's parliamentary control of a question raised on this topic. In November 2019, the electricity markets on the Bulgarian-Romanian border were successfully united in the segment "within the day", recalled Minister Petkova. She added that at the end of 2021 the work of the market union "within the day" and on the Bulgarian-Greek border is expected to start.

In the "Day Ahead" segment, three projects for market integration are being actively worked on, the Minister of Energy added. These are a project for market unification in the "Day Ahead" segment between Bulgaria and Greece, which is expected to start operating in May this year. The project is already in the final phase of development. The market integration project between Bulgaria and Romania is expected to be operational in August 2021. Currently, the participating transmission and market operators are preparing a detailed plan for testing the system. The project for market unification between Bulgaria and the Republic of Northern Macedonia is expected to be put into operation in the first quarter of 2022 at the earliest.

"These are projects that are extremely important for the Bulgarian electricity system," said Temenuzhka Petkova. According to her, they are directly related to ensuring the security of electricity supply for Bulgarian consumers and thus Bulgaria to integrate as soon as possible into the common European market.
