Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov called for speeding up the energy transition not only because of European funds and the requirements of the European Union, but also because of the responsibility to society. The National Plan for Reconstruction and Development will have clear goals by 2027, he said, but pointed to the need for in-depth analysis and a clear vision of our country's commitments at least until 2035, BNR reported.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov, the experts should prepare several scenarios for the energy transition, and the parliament should decide who will be implemented by our country. However, this must happen after a broad public debate.

"We cannot expect emission prices to fall. They will continue to rise, which will make coal energy more and more expensive for both the state and end users. Gas is seen as a transitional fuel to be used in Europe in the next decade as an opportunity to replace it with less harmful but still allowed compared to current regulations. The European institutions say: "You will not be able to negotiate, like Romania five months after your surrender. We want all points to be cleared before it is handed over, "said the Deputy Prime Minister.

This is the problem before the adoption of the recovery plan by the European Commission, but the decision should not be taken hastily just because it is required, Pekanov stressed.

"For example, we can say an indicative date of 2035, but what will we do until then to make the right decisions not only for infrastructure projects that will replace dirty energy production, but also the compensatory measures that will give people, affected by this, livelihood opportunities.”
