To date, 3,500 signatures have been collected in Yambol against the closure of TPP "Maritsa East 2" and "Mini Maritsa East". The subscription is already taking place in 14 cities in the country, Dimitar Chalakov from the initiative committee told BTA reporter.

The campaign initially started in 8 cities in southeastern Bulgaria a little over two weeks ago. The subscription is organized by the trade unions in the mining and energy complex. According to CITUB and Podkrepa, the goal is to preserve thousands of jobs - about 25,000 people are directly employed in Maritza East, and more than 92,000 people work together with those in the subsidiaries. Residents of the municipalities of Yambol, Tundzha, Elhovo, Nova Zagora, Sliven, Stara Zagora, Haskovo, Topolovgrad, Galabovo and Radnevo work in the complex.

The unions are also demanding the resumption of negotiations with the state on the Sustainability and Development Plan in the energy sector, as well as a review of the country's policy towards the future of the power plant.

When 150,000 signatures are collected in the country, they will be submitted to the National Assembly, the organizers said.
