Borissov: Bulgaria will support the introduction of a digital green certificate
The participation of the Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in the videoconference meeting of the members of the European Council has started. The talks of European leaders today focus on the development of the COVID-19 pandemic, the European Union's relations with Russia and the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean. In the evening, the heads of state and government of the EU member states will talk to US President Joe Biden, who will present his vision for the future of EU-US relations.
Tomorrow, European leaders will discuss the single market, industrial policy, digitalisation and the economy.
At today's videoconference, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov will once again express his full support for the common approach that the EU has chosen to provide vaccines and will thank the European Commission and personally the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen for the great efforts they have made in this direction. Thanks to this common approach in the EU, all Member States have equal access to the vaccines that are so necessary to restore normal life.
The Bulgarian Prime Minister will emphasize the importance of strict compliance with the terms of the contracts by the pharmaceutical companies. No compromise can be made with the deliveries of the ordered quantities and terms. All the Member States of the Union are unanimous that there must be no breach of the terms of the Treaties, as otherwise obstacles will be created to the protection of the life and health of all European citizens.
The Prime Minister of Bulgaria will emphasize to the EU leaders that solidarity and readiness for compromise are the way to the right solutions during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this regard, it is essential that Member States be united and act quickly and effectively to find solutions to the pandemic.
Prime Minister Borissov will point out the position of our country in support of the introduction of a "digital green certificate". The Bulgarian Prime Minister will emphasize that such a certificate should facilitate the free movement of citizens and not lead to the creation of additional obstacles, privileges, restrictions and discrimination, which does not correspond to the rights and values of the EU. The certificate will enable every European citizen to indicate whether he or she has been vaccinated against COVID-19, whether he or she has had a disease, or whether a negative PCR test for coronavirus has been introduced.
