They handed over the amended licenses for the operation of units 5 and 6 and the storage facility for dry storage of spent nuclear fuel at the Kozloduy NPP
On July 29, the executive director of Kozloduy NPP, Ivan Andreev, received from the chairman of the Nuclear Regulation Agency, Tsanko Bachiiski, the amended licenses for the operation of three of the nuclear facilities of the nuclear power plant - the fifth and sixth power units and the Dry Storage Facility for spent nuclear fuel. They are not time-limited in accordance with the changes in national legislation adopted earlier this year.
The requirement of the Safe Use of Nuclear Energy Act to conduct at least once every 10 years a periodic safety review, which is a systematic reassessment of all safety factors of the design and operation of the nuclear facility concerned, remains in force. The summary results of the performed periodic reviews proving safe operation will continue to be submitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Agency for review and approval, complete with an integrated program for the implementation of measures to continuously maintain and enhance safety.
