The expansion of connectivity between Bulgaria and Turkey will contribute to the economic development and security not only of both countries, but also of Europe
President Rumen Radev met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Hakan Fidan
The expansion of transport, energy and digital connectivity between Bulgaria and Turkey will contribute to the economic development, stability and security not only of the two countries, but also of the whole of Europe. This was stated by President Rumen Radev at a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Hakan Fidan, who is on an official visit to our country. Hakan Fidan also prioritized deepening the connectivity between the two countries.
President Rumen Radev highlighted the joint work during the caretaker government to expand the capacity of the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing and the memorandum concluded with Turkey for the second railway line Yambol-Lesovo-Elhovo-Khamzabeyli-Odrin. Given the change in global supply chains, the strengthening of our transport links and the increase in the capacity of the crossing points will give a new impetus and perspective to the trade and economic cooperation for the entire region of Central and South-Eastern Europe, said Rumen Radev.
The Bulgarian head of state highly appreciated that, in the midst of the energy crisis in Europe, Turkey provided our country with timely access to the Turkish liquefied gas terminals, which did not allow Bulgaria to experience difficulties in reserving slots. The President also emphasized the importance of the proposals from Bulgaria and the "Solidarity ring" project promoted by the European Commission for the transfer of Azeri gas to the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, which opens up opportunities for Turkey in this direction as well.
Security partnership was also discussed during the meeting. Rumen Radev and Hakan Fidan noted the good cooperation between Bulgaria and Turkey for guarding the common border and countering illegal human trafficking. The general position was that the two countries should strengthen their cooperation to limit the negative consequences of Russia's war against Ukraine for the entire region, but the cessation of hostilities and the establishment of lasting peace is the most sustainable solution.
