At a solemn ceremony on February 13 at 1 p.m., the management of the Bobov Dol thermal power plant symbolically broke ground for the construction of a photovoltaic park - the Bobov Dol thermal power plant, the company announced.

The solar park will be located in Palatovo village, Dupnitsa municipality and will be located on a former coal dump. The modern facility will have a total capacity of 100 MW and will be accompanied by a battery farm for storing electrical energy. The goal is the energy transformation of the Bobov Dol thermal power plant in order to improve the impact on the environment.

The executive director of TPP Bobov Dol, Eng. Lyubomir Spasov, announced that the entire project will cost around BGN 100 million.

"What is given to us for free must be used, and we use it and we will use it! We are the first to go to the transformation! We decided with our own strength to do what is being talked about!" said Engineer Lyubomir Spasov.

"We want to preserve the Bobov Dol thermal power plant, to preserve the jobs. The FEC project is a new start for the Power Plant! Whoever thinks that the Bobov Dol thermal power plant will not exist is very wrong! It will exist!" said Kristina Lazarova from the Board of Directors of TPP Bobov Dol and defined the project as her child.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of TPP Bobov Dol, Kristina Lazarova, said that at the beginning, when the idea was born, no one believed that such a project could be realized in Bulgaria.

The executive director of TPP Bobov Dol, Eng. Lyubomir Spasov, said that with the project they want to show that coal plants can be transformed.

“This is not the last we do at our Headquarters! Natural gas is also on the way. There will also be a small bio-plant, the construction of cogeneration gas facilities is on the way, which is an additional production of electrical energy. We are building an industrial park around the Headquarters. We can offer everything to the people who will come to ours industrial park," finished Eng. Lubomir Spasov.

"We will be leaders in energy! The first green hydrogen will be produced here!" vowed engineer Lubomir Spasov.

Nikola Nikolov from the Bulgarian Photovoltaic Association stated that over 2 million tons of carbon emissions will be saved with the implementation of the project.

The chairman of KT Podkrepa Dimitar Manolov and the vice-president of KNSB Ognyan Atanasov also announced their unanimous support for the realization of this project.

"We will support all reliable alternatives and all reasonable ways of producing energy!" said Dimitar Manolov.

Ognyan Atanasov from KNSB appealed to stop the opposition between coal energy and renewable energy. According to him, the two cannot exist without each other. He pointed out that a few days ago representatives of the EC visited the Bobov Dol TPP and the response was very flattering.

The regional governor of Kyustendil, Eng. Alexander Pandurski, announced that they plan to turn the site into an industrial park from the Bobov Dol thermal power plant.

"Today is an impressive holiday. We are doing something that has not been done anywhere else!" said engineer Alexander Pandurski.

Finally, the executive director Eng. Lyubomir Spasov and Kristina Lazarova from the Board of Directors symbolically broke ground on the construction of the photovoltaic park.

"This is not the last thing we do around our Headquarters. Natural gas is also on its way, it will come too. There will also be a small bio-plant, the construction of cogeneration gas facilities is on the way, which is an additional production of electrical energy. We are building an industrial park around the Headquarters. We can offer everything to the people who will come to our industrial park!" concluded engineer Lubomir Spasov.
