The Minister of Energy Alexander Nikolov confirms that in pursuance of the decision of the political party "There is such a people", he will resign on Monday (June 13, 2022). This is stated in a statement of the press center of the Ministry of Energy to the media.

In view of the published publications on the reasons for this act, we clarify that all media interpretations, including energy policy, especially in the field of trade, transit and supply of natural gas, are pure speculation. The resignation of Minister Nikolov is a political decision.

At the same time, as the principal of the Ministry of Energy, Minister Nikolov did not authorize any of his deputies to interpret our relations with Gazprom at his own discretion, the ministry said.

As it has been repeatedly emphasized, Bulgargaz has an active, existing contract with Gazpromexport. It is in unilateral non-compliance, while the Bulgarian side complies with all trade, legal and regulatory requirements.

The Ministry of Energy explicitly emphasizes that after this period the efforts of the entire team, as well as the Bulgarian Energy Holding and related companies, are to strictly comply with gas requests, based on long-term, predictable and sustainable partnerships. In line with the policy pursued at the government level, numerous meetings were held in order to effectively implement diversification and significantly reduce dependence on any particular fuel supplier.

There is no decision of the ITN party in the opposite direction and the actions and efforts were completely in line with the government's policy. The overall policy of the ITN party in the energy sphere is aimed at preserving the public interest, a clear strategic Euro-Atlantic direction and minimizing the risks and negative effects during a severe geopolitical conflict, the press center of the Ministry of Energy said.
