Over the past four months of the year, the number of banknotes in circulation has been steadily declining: from 546,861,234 in July, 552,846,780 in August, 550,909,790 in September, to 545,176,350 in November, according to BNB monthly data released today.

However, there is an increase in the 50-lev, 100-lev and 5-lev banknotes: from 202,799,700 in October to 204,431,776 in November in the 50-lev; from 92,894,939 to 94,249,161 for the BGN 100 and from 29,507,538 to 29,507,538 for the BGN 5. For the other two banknotes, the BNB reported a decrease in their number in circulation: for the 10 levs (from 88,034,515 to 86,296,697) and for the 20 levs (from 133,511,314 to 130,486,204).

The banknotes of BGN 50 were in circulation the most in November, followed by the BGN 20 banknotes and the BGN 100 banknotes (but it should be noted that the BGN 100 banknotes were put into circulation on December 8, 2003 at the latest). The 10-year-olds and the least are the five-year-olds.

Coins in circulation also increase in November

The BNB monthly data show that the number of coins in circulation has been steadily increasing since the beginning of the year: from 2,728,026,704 in January to 2,849,724,244 in November, with the following increase over the last four months: from 2,805,959 299 in August, 2,821,315,390 in September, 2,834,075,641 in October and 2,849,724,244 in November.

The most in circulation are 1 stotinka (819 028 633 pieces), followed by 2 stotinki (740 073 108 pieces), 10 stotinki (327 560 463 pieces), 5 stotinki (319 136 610 pieces), 20 stotinki (266 421 697 pieces), 1 lev (168 530 412 pieces), 50 stotinki (131 972 246 pieces) and 2 levs (77 001 075 pieces).

Let us recall that the change coin with a face value of BGN 1 has been in circulation since September 2, 2002, and the coin with a face value of BGN 2 - since December 7, 2015.

The value of banknotes and coins in circulation

And although the number of banknotes decreased in November, their value increased by BGN 140,170,490 - from BGN 23,127,588,020 in October to BGN 23,267,758,510 in November.

Logically, the largest is the value of the BGN 50 banknotes (BGN 10,221,588,800), followed by the BGN 100 banknotes (BGN 9,424,916,100).

The value of coins in circulation also increased by BGN 3,119,370 - from BGN 510,388,280 as of October 31 to BGN 3,486,874 - from BGN 504,678,323 as of August 31 to BGN 508,165,197 as of September 30 to BGN 513,507,650 as of September 30. November 30.
