The energy exchange within the trade "market day ahead" closed at a price for basic energy (1 - 24 hours) of BGN 303.53 per MWh and a quantity of 65 616.60 MWh with a delivery date of August 9, 2021, according to trading data.

The price of peak energy (9-20 hours) is BGN 327.36 per MWh, with a quantity of 35,445.60 MWh.

The off-peak energy (30 171.00 MWh) is at a price of BGN 279.69 per MWh (1-8; 21-24 hours).

In response to the new jump in electricity exchange prices, the leadership of the Ministry of Energy has insisted to the management of the state TPP "Maritsa East 2" today, Monday, to be released additional capacity of the plant to operate on the free market. After pressure from the ministry last week, the state-owned TPP switched on a third unit and in the last few days has been working with 1 unit for the regulated market and 2 units for the free market. Business organizations have long insisted on the inclusion of more capacity of TPP "MI2" in order to increase the liquidity of the energy exchange and reduce pressure on prices. High electricity prices hit all sectors of the industry and reduce its competitiveness. At the same time, the inclusion of the plant with more capacity is an opportunity both for the realization of additional revenues for the company and for reducing the pressure on the market from the high electricity prices.

A few days ago, the Ministry of Energy managed to persuade the management of TPP "Maritsa East 2" to include a third unit of the plant, which until then worked with two of its eight units. This immediately affected the prices, lowering them by about BGN 70 per day.
