The MEP from the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats Tsvetelina Penkova organized a conference in Brussels on the topic "Energy security - the basis for the development of European industry. The role of Bulgaria", the press office of the Bulgarian MEP announced. Key representatives of the largest industrial, energy and branch organizations from Bulgaria and Europe will gather at the conference.

The event, which will be held on March 19 (Tuesday) at 10:00 a.m. in the European Parliament in Brussels, will be attended by diplomats, members of the European Parliament, trade unionists, representatives of academia, the non-governmental sector and experts from the European Commission. The forum will be opened by the organizer Tsvetelina Penkova, the European Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni and the Minister of Energy of Belgium Tine Van der Straten, BTA reported.

The main topic of the discussions will be the key role of Bulgaria in the development of European energy industrial policies and their implementation in the real economy, informs the press office of Tsvetelina Penkova. The development of nuclear energy as the main base power for the EU, the role of renewable energy sources and the need to improve the connectivity of electricity networks in the EU will be discussed. The conference will focus on the re-industrialization plan of the EU, the key importance of strategic raw materials in Bulgaria and the Union, the provision and training of quality personnel.

"The crises that have befallen us in recent years have shown that it is impossible to achieve the goals of the green transition without security in the energy sector, modern industry and an increase in the extraction of key raw materials within the EU," said Tsvetelina Penkova. She defends the thesis that the main priority of the European institutions should be the respect of the competitive advantages of each member state and the promotion of European technologies and industry.

Over 30 representatives of Bulgarian energy and industry will participate in the conference, over 50 will be representatives from the European Commission, large European companies, industry associations, embassies of other European countries. There are also over 30 accredited Bulgarian and international media for the event.

Tsvetelina Penkova, in her capacity as vice president of the Nuclear Energy Support Group, organized a side discussion with the American director Oliver Stone within the framework of the forum, at which he will present his new documentary film "Nuclear now". Stone's film presents the benefits of nuclear energy and breaks the stigma that it is an outdated and dangerous technology, the announcement added.
