Tsvetan Tsvetanov has resigned from all leadership posts in GERB after a discussion with GERB leader Boyko Borissov, the party said on Thursday.
Tsvetanov's resignation has been accepted by Borissov, who thanked him for his work throughout the years.
Tsvetanov commented his decision to step down in a Facebook post. He thanks his friends for the 13 years of joint work in GERB. "We built a functioning and working political model, which has always followed the public interest of every settlement, every municipality, every region, of Bulgaria and of our fellow citizens". He stresses GERB's strong list of candidates for the European elections, which GERB won, thus contributing to a strong and united Europe. "After a discussion I had with GERB leader Boyko Borissov, I decided that the right thing for me to do is to resign. I had been considering this decision long enough, but I am doing it today because I believe GERB belongs to all members and supporters. It was important for me to maintain composure and silence during the campaign, because the election victory was our common moral satisfaction from our joint work throughout the years".
Tsvetanov served as GERB's deputy leader and head of the party's election campaign headquarters.
