Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the border regions between Bulgaria and Serbia will have access to over 5.6 million euros for technological modernization. The funds are provided by the INTERREG VI-A IPA Bulgaria - Serbia 2021-2027 Program, managed by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works. Business representatives can apply from today for grants aimed at digitalization and the transition to sustainable business models to increase the competitiveness of enterprises.
This is a strategic initiative that will support the economic development of the cross-border region, providing opportunities for modernization and sustainable growth of local businesses. The funding will encourage investments in the implementation of innovative solutions, improving production processes, increasing energy efficiency and developing the circular economy, and will stimulate the internationalization of businesses through marketing strategies and access to new markets. Eligible applicants are only micro, small and medium-sized enterprises registered and operating in the cross-border region, which carry out activities in sectors such as manufacturing, waste management, information technology and professional services.
The funded projects are expected to lead to the creation of new jobs, as well as the improvement of the qualifications of employees through training and skills development. Each enterprise can receive up to EUR 200,000 in grants. For beneficiaries from Bulgaria, 100% funding is envisaged, with 85% of it being through the program and 15% national co-financing from the state budget, and for beneficiaries from Serbia – 85% EU funding and 15% own co-financing.
The application guidelines, which contain detailed information on the eligibility criteria, the procedure for submitting project proposals and the evaluation mechanisms, are published on the program's website.
Information days for candidates will be organized in both countries, as well as a partnership forum, at which business representatives will be able to find a suitable partner for the implementation of a joint project.
